How To: Pattern vs Reality 8: Pegasus

crochet pegasus

When I first got into crochet, I bought two books of patterns early on to aspire to once I moved beyond the Woobles. The first I tackled was Unicorns, Dragons, and Fantasy Amigurumi. If you’re just getting started, I recommend the book. It has a lot of cute options with a variety of skill levels. The first one I tried was Harriet the Pegasus by LittleAquaGirl. You can get the pattern either by purchasing the book, or getting just the pattern for about $5. I’ll be reviewing the Goblin, Reindeer, and the Lochness Monster in the coming weeks.

Difficulty: Beginner +. This is harder than the beginner Woobles, but if you’ve done a few beginner projects, you’re ready. You’ll spend most of this doing single crochet, increases, decreases, and counting your stitches. It gets spicier with the flowers, which took me a couple tries to do, but I appreciated the variety after a long stretch of simple stitches.

Stitches Used: Single Crochet, Increase, Decrease, Half Double Crochet (HDC), Chain
Time Taken: 20ish hours
Yarn used:

Colors: Cream (white), Blush (pink), Green Tea Heather (green), Custard (yellow), Sky (blue)

Pattern vs Reality:

I loved this one! It was my first creation where I thought I really, mostly, nailed the pattern! My flowers aren’t quite as perfect, but I thought I really got it mostly right. Up until this point, I hadn’t been that sure that I’d ever be decent at crochet. ALL of my creations in the Woobles reviews have something really noticeably off with them, but for this one, it was legitimately cute. This creation is the one my mom shows photos off to relatives. I’m so glad I did this one. It is still one of my favorite creations.

It was also my first time working with fingering yarn. I’m glad my eyes are still good and that my hands are small. That was definitely an adjustment from the Woobles yarn, but I liked it. The yarn I picked didn’t split much.

Tips:

To get the wings flat, you might want to try blocking them. I did wet blocking for mine, as explained here:
