Pictures and videos on how to make an increase stitch (inc). An increase stitch is a stitch that works two types of stitch into the same stitch. Unless the pattern maker specifies otherwise, you should assume the default of two single crochet stitches. However, if you see annotations like “HDC Inc” or “DC Inc”, that means to use the half double crochet (HDC) or double crochet (DC) stitch to make your increase instead of the default single crochet (SC) increase.
For the default increase stitch, you:
- Insert your hook into the stitch
- Yarn Over
- Pull the yarn through the stitch you inserted your hook into
- Yarn Over
- Pull the yarn through both loops on hook
- Insert your hook into the same stitch you did in Step 1
- Yarn Over
- Pull the yarn through the stitch you inserted your hook into
- Yarn Over
- Pull the yarn through both loops on hook
Let’s go over that again with screenshots:
