Megan Lapp, the creative designer behind Crafty Intentions, is a visual artist genius. I’ve reviewed several of her other patterns here on my blog, including her dragon and jellyfish, and they remain some of my best crochet projects.
Crafty Intentions is not for beginners. You need to be comfortable reading patterns and looking through glossaries to follow Megan’s patterns. They are clear and consistent, but they are also slightly unusual. If you get stuck, Megan maintains an excellent Facebook group where even she answers many questions personally: Crafty Intentions Amigurumi & Crochet Community | Facebook
The other thing I love about Megan is that instead of instructing you to create one specific item, she gives you all sorts of choices. For this crochet unicorn (or alicorn), I combined the unicorn body with the wings from the phoenix, both of which are included in her book, Crochet Creatures of Myth and Legend: 19 Designs Easy Cute Critters to Legendary Beasts.
She also lets you choose which type of horn you want for your unicorn, and which curls you’d like to use.
Two big tips for Megan’s creations:
- Trust the pattern. My creations always use wonky and wrong until finished.
- The sl st, ch 1 is not optional. Do not switch to working in a spiral instead. If you’re stuck, try watching this video, or asking for help in the FB group.
