Original Pattern: How to Make a Crochet Cauldron

crochet witch

If it’s Spooky Season, it may be time to create a crochet cauldron for your craftiest of crochet witches. I’ve also got a pattern for a crochet witch.

Difficulty
Friendly for beginners. This is beginner friendly and I have annotation below. There is one row where I include an optional “stretch” design, but I have a beginner friendly alternative if you’d prefer to use that.

Yarn:
Black Yarn: Carons Simply Soft Solids Yarn 100% Acrylic Black
Green Yarn: Facets™ Yarn by Loops & Threads® | Michaels (Color: Juniper)
I should warn that this thread is not great to work with. I grabbed it off the shelf at my local Michael’s because I loved the color, but it was sort of frustrating. It frayed really easily, and was difficult to sew with. I’d recommend another multi-color green if you can find it.

Hook:
Size 4mm (U.S.) hook

Glossary of Stitches
CH = chain

SC = single crochet

INC = 2 SC in one stitch

DEC = You can do an invisible decrease or a 2sc2tog.

DC = double crochet (optional)

MR = Magic Ring
Beginner Tip: When instructed to do a magic ring, you have two choices. You can either do the magic ring, or you can do the alternative chain 2 method. Links for both below:

Cauldron Filling
Yarn Color: Green

  1. MR 6 SC 6 [6]
    Beginner Tip: This means do a magic ring with six single crochet stitches.
  2. INC X 6 [12]
  3. (SC, INC) X 6 [18]

  4. (SC 2, INC) X 6 [24]
    Beginner Tip: This is doing (a) a single crochet in the next st, (b) a single crochet in the next st, and then (c) an increase in the next step, and then repeating a, b, and c six times all the way around.
  5. (SC 3, INC) X 6 [30]
  6. (SC 4, INC) X 6 [36]
  7. (SC 5, INC) X 6 [42]
    Fasten Off

    This should be large enough to then put this on top and sew it on. This might vary depending on your yarn type and tension, though. If this is too big, then go back to Row 6. If it is too small, add in “(SC 6, INC) X 6 [56]” and see if that fits instead.
